Dr. Stanislaw R. Burzynski

At age 24 in 1967, Dr. Stanislaw R. Burzynski MD graduated from the Medical Academy in Lublin, Poland with a distinction MD degree, placing first in his class of 250. During the same year, he discovered naturally occurring metabolites and peptides in the human body that he believed controlled cancer growth, and found that cancer patients had a significant deficiency of these peptides. The following year, he earned a PhD in biochemistry, becoming one of the youngest candidates in Poland to hold both an MD and a PhD.

From 1970 to 1977, Dr. Stanislaw R. Burzynski MD worked as a researcher and Assistant Professor at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, where his research on peptides and their effect on human cancer was sponsored and partially funded by the National Cancer Institute. He authored and co-authored 16 publications, including five about his peptide research. Dr. Stanislaw R. Burzynski MD named these peptides antineoplastons because he believed they could correct and normalize neoplastic or cancerous cells. In May 1977, he received a Certificate of Appreciation from Baylor College of Medicine for his contributions to the "Advancement of Medical Education, Research, and Health Care" after completing five years of dedicated service.
