The fact of the matter is that for most common illnesses there is greater support in the medical literature for a natural approach than there is for drugs or surgery. for the past 20 years Dr. Murray has been compiling a massive database of original scientific studies from the medical literature. He has personally collected over 50,000 articles from the scientific literature, which provide strong evidence on the effectiveness of diet, vitamins, minerals, glandular extracts, herbs, and other natural measures in the maintenance of health and the treatment of disease. It is from this constantly expanding database that Dr. Murray provides the answers on health and healing.

As a consultant to the health food industry, Dr. Murray has been instrumental in bringing many effective natural products to North America, including glucosamine sulfate, St. John’s Wort extract, ginkgo biloba extract, silymarin, enteric-coated peppermint oil, and saw palmetto berry extract.

Dr. Murray’s position in the natural health movement began in 1985 by co-authoring A Textbook of Natural Medicine to train Naturopathic Physicians. Morning. My presentation today, we'll take a look at the role of insulin resistance and how it plays in cancer as well as his diabetes.

And when I look at what's really challenging. Most people in America right now, it's their weight. This obesity epidemic is really quite significant. We have a situation where it's currently estimated that that roughly eight out of 10 adults over the age of 25 are overweight and about 38 percent of our adult population are obese. And it's estimated by many, which is now only seven years away, that roughly 60 percent of our adult population will be overweight and 50 percent of them will have type two diabetes. Is there a relationship between being overweight and developing cancer? Absolutely. If we look at the risk for various cancers, it's quite clear that the greater our body weight, particularly our abdominal obesity, the greater our risk for developing cancer. And here's something that's that's that's also very pointing out, is when you're overweight and you get cancer, you're more likely to die from it. This is particularly true in breast cancer. You can look at this chart right here that's it's looking at the estimated relative risk of having an adverse event, basically dying based upon your weight. The greater your BMI, your body mass index, the greater your risk for dying of breast cancer. So what are the mechanisms responsible for the link between obesity and cancer? Well, we're learning more and more. That is, we gain weight, particularly around her abdomen, that collectively these fat cells start acting like a tumor. And what does a tumor want to do? It wants to grow. So how do these fat cells grow? They grow by secreting compounds that block the action of insulin. So it produces insulin resistance. And it also leads to a chronic inflammatory situation which which few chronic doujin or disease, including cancer. If we look at the rate of obesity in the United States back in 1985, it was it was a problem. But let's take a look at what happened over the next 25 years. So with every year that went by, we started to see that obesity was growing rapidly in 1985. It was unusual to see a state have more than 10 percent obesity, 2005. We're starting to see some states with 30 percent obesity. And as I said earlier, roughly 38 percent of our adult population currently meet that clinical criteria of being obese. What is that? Well, if you're five foot, four inch woman, that means you're 30 pounds over your ideal body weight. So obesity means you're really overweight. And if we have 38

Weight
