About John Yiamouyannis
JOHN YIAMOUYIANNIS, Ph.D., Biochemistry, University of Rhode Island, was biochemical editor for Chemical Abstracts Service, and Science Director of the National Health Federation. For many years he co-edited the scientific journal "Fluoride." He and Dr. Dean Burk, former president of the National Cancer Institute, were recognized for their co-discovery of the link between fluoridation and cancer. Dr. Yiamouyannis is a member of the International Society of Fluoride Research.
His research on the biological effects of fluoride shows that fluoridation does not reduce tooth decay, as claimed by proponents, and may cause serious immune dysfunction. He has testified before many environmental hearings, and has authored three books: Fluoride: The Aging Factor, High Performance Health and AIDS-Good News HIV Doesn't Cause It.
Since 1975, Dr. Yiamouyiannis has led the campaign to stop the fluoridation of Los Angeles water--a campaign that succeeded until August 10, 1999, when the city began fluoridating. Thank you very much, Frank. And it's a pleasure to be here with you. Let me tell you, you're lucky enough to be at probably the finest health convention held in this country each year. And I say that without reservation because although it only deals with the cancer aspect of it, I have found not only the speaker's high quality, but the audience extremely high quality as well. I got a program in front of me just to remind me what my talk is about, because usually I'll ask somebody from the audience…. How many here have heard me speak before? Raise your hand. OK. You know, not very formal. So you won't be surprised the others might be…. But I usually entertain questions at any time. Now, let me say also, if you haven't joined or haven't helped finance the Cancer Control Society, I urge you to do so. Lorraine Rosenthal who is really the guts behind this, has put in a tremendous amount of time to put this together to help cancer patients. And I would definitely suggest you help her in every single way you can. And the Cancer Control Booth is back out there, and I really will say that this is a very worthy group, and there aren't many left anymore. Now, what's interesting is Lorraine called me up on the telephone and said, what would you like for your title?
And I said, how about something how fluoride causes cancer and promotes tumor growth? And she said. Well, you can't do that. I said why not? Well, you know how it causes cancer? I said I've known it for about 10 years. I spent so much of my time here trying to raise money to stop fluoridation and this and that and so forth and so on, that I haven't had the time, and I only have a half hour at this time and I won't be going to a number of things which hopefully you will like. But let me explain to you how it does cause cancer. I have some slides. How many people like slides and how many don't? How many don't?
See, I don't, most of you do, and I have never used them before, I can't even see myself to stand up there and take a look at my own slides. I'll come down here. OK. I usually use my hands I mean, I'm great, somewhere brutalian, I can tell you how DNA works with my hands.
