Thank you.
As the program indicates the title, the talk is holistic parenting in cancer prevention. It could also be called holistic parenting is cancer prevention. Now, I must confess that 10 years ago when I stepped into parenting, I did not do so as a holistic parent at that time. As Frank mentioned, we were dealing with my husband's illness. We had been seeing neurologist for about eight years. He'd been undergoing conventional treatments and they were beginning to cause more problems than they were solving. Then we had this baby and the light bulb kind of went on. I thought, you know, it's really time to create a healthy lifestyle, not only for my husband, but also for my daughter. So when that light bulb went on, I decided to learn. I read. I researched. I went to lectures on Chinese medicine. If I encountered a word like psycho neuro immunology that I didn't know, I went to the medical college and looked it up. Along the way, I met David Russell, who you will soon meet. He's been a holistic practitioner in Europe for 30 years and now practices in the United States. And he was a medical consultant on my book, Holistic Parenting. What I found from my learning in my research really amazed me. One of the things is that there is a plethora of studies from scientists in the U.S., Canada, Europe and other parts of the world that shows that chemical toxins in my new doses and by my new doses, I mean the chemicals called volatile organic compounds that escape from detergents, shampoos, cleaners, even in uncapped permanent magic marker. Not to mention applications of pesticides around the yard or in the home. These are my new doses of chemicals can impact greatly impact our immune system as well as the healthy functions of cells. Well, that research had a profound impact on me and I decided it was time to seriously make some lifestyle changes. Now, the changes that I made, keep this in mind through the rest of my presentation did not happen overnight. This was a gradual process, but it's been my experience and certainly David's experience that there are extremely simple, yet often overlooked and very misunderstood concepts of health and helping healthy living that we can easily integrate into our lives.
First and foremost, however, we must remember that the true basis of health has its foundation in the home. And I don't mean the actual physical shelter. The home includes one's lifestyle, one's energy, one's spiritual outlook. It's the entirety. So the home which incorporates all this will either promote or it will inhibit health. So
