Hypothermia, Non-Toxic

In this video, Cyrus Rafie spends about 21 minutes speaking on "Hypothermia, Non-Toxic" at the 42nd Annual Cancer Convention held on Labor Day weekend by the Cancer Control Society.

About Cyrus Rafie

CYRUS RAFIE, Ph.D. a Medical Physicist, is one of the most experienced users of Hyperthermia in the world with more than 25 years of experience in Hyperthermia research and treatment delivery. Cyrus Rafie established one of the most active Hyperthermia treatment programs in the world in Los Angeles and has been involved in Hyperthermia treatment of more than 2,500 patients, totaling more than 10,000 treatment sessions. These patients were treated utilizing a variety of Hyperthermia technologies such as Ultrasound, Microwave, Localized Current Field and different techniques (deep, superficial, interstitial) to achieve the maximum result for each patient.

Cyrus Rafie brings extensive experience and leadership from some of the area’s leading cancer centers. Previously, he served as Chief Administrative Officer for the Radiation Oncology Department at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) campus and the Revlon Breast Center. He worked at Long Beach Memorial Hospital for over 20 years, beginning as a Research Associate and later as a Medical Physicist in the Radiation Oncology Center. Cyrus Rafie has co-authored 5 peer reviewed scientific papers in the field of Hyperthermia, all published in major journals. In addition, he is a guest speaker at major national and international scientific meetings. Currently, he is involved in assisting patient treatment with Hyperthermia at The Center for Thermal Oncology, a private Clinic located in Santa Monica, California, dedicated to treating the whole patient.

Cyrus Rafie received his Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences from Loyola Marymount University, Master’s Degree in Biological Sciences from California State University of Dominguez Hills and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of La Verne. He is currently a doctoral candidate at California Coast University.

Thank you. Thanks for. Thank you for the kind introduction.

This is some agenda for my meeting. I'm going to briefly describe what hypothermia is, but the history and treatment sites. Then I'll show you some of the recent cases we have treated in our clinic in Los Angeles. Then briefly, I review literature related to hypothermia and biological effect of hypothermia.

Hypothermia is or terminal term thermal therapy is a noninvasive FDA approved cancer treatment that raises tumor temperature to about one or seven to one hundred ten degree Fahrenheit.

Temperatures similar to high grade fever. Except that this is localized.

The first person that.

Use hypothermia to combat cancer was a physician, Dr. Coley. He observed that some cancer patients, when they have high grade fever, the tumor seems to be spontaneously disappear. Based on his observation, he mixed three different bacterias and he would inject the patient with this mixture or he would directly inject the tumor sites. He reported success. He reported that he was able to extend the life of some of the patients and in some cases the tumor completely disappeared. My reading shows that he was more successful with lymphomas.

In our clinic.

We are using advanced hypothermia device made by lab mix called sonna term. This device is FDA approved for primary tumors or recurrent tumors. This device uses ultrasound for heating at the frequency of one megahertz penetrates bought four centimeter, sort of like by four two inches at a frequency of 2.5 megahertz, penetrates about 10 s.m, considering to see them up subcutaneous fat. There is no loss of energy in subcutaneous fat. The applicator head that you see here is a smaller applicator head. It has four ultrasound transducer and each one of them is powered by a separate generator so we can match the shape of heating to the shape of tumor. We have a larger applicator for chest vault that has 16 applicators. Also, we have a 16 channel term monetary unit that can monitor the temperature doing the treatment.

There are no long term or short term side effects associated with hypothermia. The only thing we're seeing in our clinic are some small blisters that we have to take pictures of it and magnify it to see if they in fact, there were blisters. And so I have magnified this picture to get this picture. Here is the Ballister. Some researchers have reported fat necrosis, which also resolve by itself in less than six months.

We can treat almost any part of the body, any anatomical site, with the exception of brain and lungs. Ultrasound cannot penetrate the skull and also cannot heat long because these
