About Harold J. Kristal
HAROLD J. KRISTAL, D.D.S. graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry, Minneapolis in 1947. He moved to California and joined the Navy for one year as a Dentist, later transferring to the Air Force for two more years, holding the rank of Captain. Subsequently, he was in private practice in Richmond, California until 1993. He has been a member of The American Dental Association for 48 years, a Fellow in the American Institute of Oral Biology and is a past President of the Contra Costa Dental Association.
Over time, Dr. Kristal came to question the use of mercury in dental amalgams, as well as the safety of several other mainstream dental practices. He became one of the pioneers in the new Holistic Dentistry Movement. Throughout this period Dr. Kristal’s long-held belief in the connection between dental health and the health of the whole body was affirmed, as well as his conviction of the importance of sound nutrition. Throughout much of his career as a Dentist, he incorporated nutritional counseling into his practice, experimenting over the years with various different systems of nutritional analysis. In 1993, he retired from his dental practice, moving full-time into the practice of nutritional counseling.
He worked extensively with William Wolcott, Health Researcher, the originator of the current form of Metabolic Typing. Dr. Kristal was especially instrumental in developing the in-office testing procedures used by practitioners of Metabolic Typing.
In a recent published study, Dr. Kristal found a link between Metabolic Type and cancer. When those clients with a known diagnosis of cancer were tested, 78% of those tested were of the Metabolic Type that has problems processing fats and proteins.
Dr. Kristal is himself a lymphoma cancer survivor. He is a pioneer in the emerging field of Metabolic Typing. He maintains a busy clinical practice in San Rafael, California at his Metabolic Nutrition Clinic. He also teaches Personalized Metabolic Nutrition Seminars to health professionals world wide. Dr. Kristal is the author, with James Haig, N.C. of The Nutrition Solution: A Guide to Your Metabolic Type.

I'm a cancer. I'm a cancer survivor, so the little glitch we had with the computer problem has absolutely nothing to me after what I've been through. My name's Ken Mallik. I'm the co-founder of the Prostate Awareness Foundation, where bank based in San Francisco. And as I say, I'm also a prostate cancer survivor. Those of you that have been in the audience and listened to all the marvelous speakers in the last 48 hours, just about every one of them references the need for a good sound nutritional program. And before I get into introducing our next speaker, who has one that will work for your personal metabolic type, I just like to tell you just a little bit about myself. Just very briefly, I was diagnosed eight years ago with prostate cancer. I look pretty much then the way I look now. I've always been very athletic and I was kind of shocked, just like most of us are when we do get a diagnosis. After revealing the conventional options that I had, I chose not to go that way. And I practice a program that I call aggressive, watchful waiting, which connotates that. I'm not just sitting around on my hands waiting for something to happen. I took a lot of proactive responsibility for my healing. I've combined good nutrition program, an aggressive supplement program, diet, exercise and support group involvement along with meditation. And I'm proud to say that in November of last year, I went back to UC Med Center in San Francisco for re biopsy. And I was shocked, just like my conventional doctors were, that I no longer have prostate cancer. They don't quite know what to make of me. I do practice what I call integrative medicine, using the best natural healing methods and then making sure that I go back for regular diagnostic tools, that conventional medicine, I feel does a very good job with. I'm so healthy, in fact, that on Thursday I'm traveling to Tanzania or in Africa to participate in a prostate cancer climb to raise money for prostate research and education. I wanted to make sure I make made this venture because I will be the voice of pain healing approach to this disease. And by the way, many clinicians now feel that prostate cancer is really breast cancer in disguise. There are so many parallels to the two diseases. One of the cornerstones of my healing has been a good sound nutritional program. And I'm honored to introduce Dr. Harold J. Crystal, who is going to tell you a little a lot more about what that actually constitutes. Dr. Crystal is one of the pioneers
