As always, it's wonderful to be here because I see people with like minds. Yes, as you heard that I was in conventional medicine. I still consider myself an orthodox medical doctor. I'm an orthopedic trauma surgeon. For 15 years, I was on the faculty of the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine, as associate professor and vice chairman of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery. And as mentioned, I was also chief of orthopedic surgery at San Francisco General Hospital. I was in the heart of Orthodox medicine. When I left San Francisco General in 1990, I actually left there to go to Southern California to get married again. It had nothing to do really with politics, although the political situation was that I was speaking out about the AIDS epidemic and wanted it to be handled as a medical issue instead of a political issue. In fact, I called at that time for universal testing for AIDS patients as well as for health care workers, and was ridiculed and ostracized, but only now this year, this past year, the Centers for Disease Control, 20 years later, has endorsed the legislation that I propose and my present husband, former U.S. Representative Congressman Bill Dynamiter, both of us proposed 20 years ago that this be done.
And now after the cow is out of the barn door, they have finally decided to do it. Well, I'm no stranger to controversy. I developed cancer in nineteen ninety two. The lump was very small at first. Then each of you has on your chair. One of my brochures, if you look down at the bottom of that brochure. You will see a picture of my tumor when it first appeared. Now it was real tiny and I didn't think it was cancer, nor did anybody else think it was cancer. And I had a plastic surgeon, friend of mine remove it under local, but it turned out to be cancer. I then decided I was not going to have chemotherapy or radiation at all because I had seen too many thousands of patients die from the treatment we give them. Chemotherapy is poison. Radiation is burning. You cannot get a sick person well, by giving them poison or by burning them. That is an outrageous thing that has dominated Orthodox medicine.
So I just. And I. You cannot cut cancer out. A lot of people think we just have the tumor out. But if you had a sick child with chicken pox, would you take that sick child to the surgeon and say, oh, please, my child is very sick, remove all the pockmarks in their skin so they'll be well?
