Tocotrienol Vitamin E, Cancer

In this video, Barrie Tan spends about 26 minutes speaking on "Tocotrienol Vitamin E, Cancer" at the 39th Annual Cancer Convention held on Labor Day weekend by the Cancer Control Society.

About Barrie Tan

BARRIE TAN, Ph.D. earned his Degree in Analytical Chemistry at the University of Otago, New Zealand and later became a Professor at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst teaching Chemistry and Food Science/Nutrition. He has more than 25 years of research experience in lipid soluble vitamins with particular expertise in tocotrienols, tocopherols, carotenoids, cholesterol, CoQ10 and omega 3's.

Dr. Tan has commercialized natural carotenoids (lutein and zeaxanthin, alpha- and beta-carotene, lycopene) and was the first to introduce tocotrienol from palm, rice and annatto to our Nutrition Industry. He is the inventor of numerous tocotrienol extractions from natural sources and its application in product formulation and disease prevention.

Dr. Tan developed the first ever tocopherol-free tocotrienol product derived from annatto beans. The annatto plant originates from the Amazon rainforest and has been used since ancient times. The "tocopherol-free" aspect is very important, since research has shown that alpha-tocopherol interferes with the benefits of tocotrienol.

Dr. Tan has been involved in numerous trials on tocotrienols for cancer, prediabetes/diabetes, antioxidant potential and hypercholesterolemia. Of all the studies published on PubMed, tocotrienol in cancer prevention and treatment is most compelling. Also to his credit, he will be editing the second edition of a textbook called "Tocotrienols: Vitamin E Beyond Tocopherols."

Dr. Tan may be contacted through his company called American River Nutrition located in Hadley, Massachusetts by phone 413-253-3449, website www.americanrivernutrition.com and e-mail [email protected].

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

I know it's early in the morning and you guys could be here. I appreciate it. This is my first time in this show. And also first time that thanks to Lorraine Rosenthal, it invited me and I decided to exhibit as well. Let me tell you how this talk is going to be like vitamin E, it's an old vitamin with a new twist. Just think of that as it as the flow of the top goes.

So have a little bit of history and a little bit of my discovery, how I got into this. And then almost most of the rest of it, Bobi on Kansas' study. And you might be surprised to hear some of the things about vitamin E because he has been put in a bag and other vitamins have come to the fore, particularly vitamin D these days. So this is an old vitamin revisited. This is also a usual unusual vitamin. It has much to do with the United States of America it also has much to do with myself, America. And it will become evidence is so necessary. I got into days when I studied vitamin E and teaching in chemistry and biochemistry at the University of Massachusetts in Amma's.

And I discovered this from the plant palm where most people think of palm oil as being negative and the environment is found.

And if I.

This plant is called a natto, and the topic is right on top. And you can see a furry plant. And you can see them. The British call, it's a lipstick plant. And we see this particular thing in Doritos chips, coloring of Doritos chips and cheese making like that.

I'll tell you a little bit more about this plant and is that the plant is discovered by Francesco de Arellano, who is pictures in the middle and in the Amazonia during the six hundred fifty years ago doing a Spanish exploration in South America.

Now, a little bit about the history as you go and try to be brief on this. But if I don't do this and just jump on it, then a lot will be lost. The discovery of vitamin E goes back almost 100 years. And two persons, these two people are both medical doctors, Professor Herbert Evans, and he's one of his earlier graduate student, Dr. Katherine Bishop, at the University of California, Berkeley. And a discovered days just from the title hitherto unknown, unrecognized dietary factors for the essential in reproduction. And hence, this is dub as the birth vitamin. Of course, we lost the meaning of the birth. Vitamin E,
