Hyperthermia is an emerging and promising cancer therapy that refers to the use of heat and the therapeutic effects of raising body temperature to treat malignant tumors [1]. It can be applied alone (more rare) or in conjunction with other conventional treatments (more common) such as chemotherapy, radiation and immunotherapy [1] [2].

Insulin potentiation therapy (IPT) is an experimental treatment protocol that combines chemotherapy (or other medications) with insulin. It is claimed that the use of insulin increases the efficacy of chemotherapy drugs and targets cancer cells more selectively [1]. IPT enables a 75-95% reduction of conventional chemotherapy doses, and consequently, reduces toxic side effects [1]. However, there is currently minimal scientific research to determine purported efficacy against cancer.

Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy is a painless, non-invasive way to address abnormal resonance in cancer cells. In addition, PEMF has been shown to assist in making cell membranes more permeable. PEMF also is non-toxic to healthy cells. An extensive body of literature describes anticancer properties of dichloroacetate (DCA), but its effective clinical administration in cancer therapy is still limited to clinical trials. The occurrence of side effects such as neurotoxicity as well as the suspicion of DCA carcinogenicity still restricts the clinical use of DCA. However, in the last several years, the number of reports supporting DCA employment against cancer increased also because of the great interest in targeting the metabolism of tumor cells. Dissecting the DCA mechanism of action helped to understand the basis of its selective efficacy against cancer cells. Successful coadministration of DCA with conventional chemotherapy, radiotherapy, other drugs, or natural compounds has been tested in several cancer models. New drug delivery systems and multi-action compounds containing DCA and other drugs seem to ameliorate bioavailability and appear more efficient thanks to a synergistic action of multiple agents. The spread of reports supporting the efficiency of DCA in cancer therapy has prompted additional studies to find other potential molecular targets of DCA. Curcumin, a polyphenol first extracted from Curcuma longa in 1815, has gained attention from scientists worldwide for its biological activities –antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antiviral –among which its anticancer potential has been the most described and still remains under investigation. The present review focuses on the cell signaling pathways involved in cancer development and proliferation, and which are targeted by curcumin. Curcumin has been reported to modulate growth factors, enzymes, transcription factors, kinase, inflammatory cytokines, and proapoptotic (by upregulation) and antiapoptotic (by downregulation) proteins. IV Curcumin

Artemisinin, a chemical compound extracted from the plant Artemisia annua, commonly used in Chinese medicine for treating malaria, is considered to have anti-cancer properties based on in vitro/in vivo and few clinical studies. However, more well-defined larger clinical trials are needed to determine the conditions and dosage under which Artemisinin or artesunate, a derivative of artemisinin, may be safe and effective in cancer patients. However, artemisinin may induce CYP2B6 and CYP3A4 enzymes and hence may interact with cancer drugs or other drugs metabolized by these enzymes, thereby affecting their concentration/dosage and bioavailability.
